Brighton office help out with Year 10 Geography Field Trip

On Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th June, staff from the Brighton office accompanied students and teachers from Patcham High School around the SHW managed One Brighton residential development.

As part of their GSCE Geography studies the Year 10 students visited the eco-friendly residential development as well as studying and comparing Churchill Square, The Lanes and London Road retail areas of Brighton to analyse to what extent inequality increases with distance from the city centre.

The SHW team were able to enhance the students' tour by showing them around One Brighton and pointing out the various eco-friendly attributes of the development such as the biomass boiler, the bat boxes and swift nests.  The students were also taken up to the mini allotments on the 6th floor and the roof top sky garden on the 11th floor from where they could get a great view of central Brighton and the overall area of their field study.  One resident even kindly showed them around his studio apartment and was happy to tell the students that it was so well insulated and efficient that he had never put the heating on nor changed a light bulb in the 12 years he had been resident!

Thanks to the Year 10 students and teachers of Patcham High School who were all impeccably behaved, and to Joshua Aylott, Birgit Bammert, Jade Deen, Carlie Edgerton, and Alex Wales for acting as tour guides.
