SHW News

In 2023 we have continued to grow our teams and strengthen our service lines, with a further push into its coverage across England.

Following last year’s merger with WSW, we have expanded our architectural services further with the intake of two new Senior Architects – Scott Theobold and Joe Swift, strengthening our offer in this field with our existing and new clients.

In July this year, we completed our definitive merger agreement with Ashwell Rogers, taking over the day-to-day management of the London-based team who have settled in brilliantly and hit the ground running across Central London Office Agency, National out-of-town retail and professional services.

We have also grown our team organically, with new appointments across service lines, along with new individuals joining our graduate programme. I’m delighted to say that we have had many successes in professional qualifications among our young surveyors this year, with Charlie McKechnie, Reece Thorsen, Jack Peacock, Alex Wales, Kieran Edwards, Matt Morris, Jasmine Dean-Milward and Mano Georgiou all sitting and passing their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).

In April this year, we announced the promotion of Gemma Quinn and Duncan Bannister to Partner level, an accolade to their continued dedication to the business – and to their teams – and their contribution to the overall growth of the firm, bringing their ideas, experience and inspiration to reach this level.

Following the appointment of our new Head of Planning – Brett Moore – working with his team members Jamil Hornsby-Odoi and Jack Barker, this year has seen an increase in successful planning outcomes including various change of uses, enabling conversions and development across the South East.

In Agency, we have seen a real growth in instructions and completions across sectors. For example, with the industrial team instructed on new build schemes totalling approximately 2.5 million sq ft at the beginning of this year - a figure that has continued to grow. In Croydon, SHW has been instrumental in launching and building the space availability platform ‘Croydon Commercial’ which acts as a one-stop-shop for those searching for business space in the region.

Continuing on from our own website refresh last year, we have accelerated our external marketing and communications with a big push on showcasing all our service lines to continue to position SHW as the full services advisory firm that we are. We have also been working on our graduates’ page within the website and will shortly be showcasing those current and past in a series of promotional and insightful videos.

Last, but not least, this year has seen another busy year of sporting and charity activities to support our nominated 2023 charities – Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and St Catherine’s Hospice, including Charity Tennis at Kingswood Club and Volleyball on Brighton Beach. The regional teams also took part in a number of CSR days including land clearing and spring cleaning at Bears Wood Scout Camp, beach clean-up in Brighton and painting and planting for St Catherine’s Hospice in Pease Pottage. In November, as part of International Stress Awareness Week, teams across the South East had a fun/relaxing/entertaining day when some of our SHW employees brought their furry friends (dogs) into the office – a must for next year.

As we approach the end of the year, we look forward to continued success across the board in 2024 and to many more sporting and charity activities and we continue to grow, evolve, and build our team, providing the best all round property advice to our clients.
