SHW Industrial Estate Resurfacing Project
Building Consultancy, Development, Planning
SHW recently undertook contract administration, project management, and CDM Principal Designer responsibilities for resurfacing works at a substantial industrial estate in Weybridge, encompassing an area exceeding 10,000 m². The estate experiences considerable and frequent heavy vehicle traffic, including regular 40‑tonne loads. Consequently, the road surfacing was severely degraded with extensive potholes and surface water accumulation.

The scope of works included planning off the existing surface to a depth of 40mm and installing a new 40mm Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) surface. SMA was chosen for its robustness, longevity, and resistance to deformation, making it highly suitable for the intensive usage and loading requirements of the site.
Several businesses on the estate operate continuously, therefore meticulous traffic management planning was critical. The project phasing was devised to ensure uninterrupted access and minimise disruption, incorporating night‑time working where necessary to complete works to busy areas of the site and maintain programme progress.
Given the operational nature of the site and constant vehicular movement, health and safety considerations for operatives and site users were paramount. In our capacity as CDM Principal Designer, we coordinated design risk management, addressed hazards during the design phase, and supported safe project delivery throughout the works.
The project was executed safely and efficiently, resulting in a resilient long‑term solution that enabled uninterrupted estate operations during the works.
Michael Sherlock, Director of SHW, commented: "We are proud to have delivered a high-quality resurfacing project that not only meets the demanding needs of the estate but also demonstrates our commitment to safety and operational continuity. The success of this scheme is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our team and all stakeholders involved."
