Luke Longley holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s in Real Estate. Luke joined SHW in June 2016 as a Graduate Surveyor in the Professional Department.
He currently works within the London/Croydon Professional team. In particular, dealing with all aspects of Business Rates and Lease Advisory work.
In 2019, Luke completed his Assessment of Professional Competence to become a Chartered Surveyor and in 2021 was promoted to Senior Surveyor.
Project experience
Business Rates Management – checking business rates bills for clients and ensuring any discounts/relief applicable has been applied. He often liaises with local authorities to ensure ratepayers’ bills are correct, and subsequently ensures bills are amended if inaccurate.
Business Rates Mitigation and Appeal – using a number of techniques, Luke successfully reduces the business rates liability for ratepayers, this can involve submitting appeals to contest a Rateable Value or taking steps to reduce liability when a property is empty.
St Georges Place, Brighton – a business rates appeal on behalf of a local solicitor resulted in reducing the client’s business rates bill from approximately £10,000 pa to £0.
Lease Advisory – advises clients on a number of lease matters, including rent reviews, re-gears and lease renewals. Luke acts for both landlords and tenants.
AMP House, Dingwall Road, Croydon – a large office building adjacent to East Croydon train station where Luke acts for the landlord and deals with rent review and lease renewals.
