SHW - Hallings Wharf Façade Remediation Project

Building Consultancy, Development, Professional services

SHW’s Building Consultancy Team was appointed to the Hallings Wharf project in East London, overseeing an extensive façade remediation programme.

The scope of works included the replacement of Expanded Polystyrene Insulation and timber cladding, managed within an overall budget of approximately £2.5 million. The project involved the careful removal of the existing façade elements, which had reached the end of their serviceable life and were no longer compliant with current fire safety regulations. New, fire-rated insulation materials were installed to enhance thermal performance and ensure compliance with updated building standards. The timber cladding was substituted with a high-quality, durable alternative that not only improved the external appearance of the building but also offered increased resistance to weathering and reduced ongoing maintenance costs. Throughout the process, stringent quality checks and site inspections were carried out to guarantee that all works met the agreed specifications and safety requirements.

SHW worked in close partnership with the client to fully understand their requirements and objectives for the Hallings Wharf Façade Remediation Project. Regular meetings and transparent communication channels were established between all parties, including the main contractor, to facilitate prompt decision-making and address any challenges as they arose. In addition, SHW engaged proactively with representatives from the Building Safety Fund, preparing detailed documentation and coordinating evidence submissions to support the funding application. The team assisted the client in navigating the complex funding process, providing guidance on eligibility criteria and ensuring all necessary paperwork was completed accurately and submitted on time.

Throughout the project, SHW acted as a central point of contact, managing stakeholder expectations and ensuring that updates regarding progress and funding status were communicated effectively. Their involvement played a crucial role in securing full financial support for the remediation works, thereby enabling the project to proceed without delays and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Additionally, SHW liaised with various suppliers to confirm that the selected replacement materials not only improved the building's aesthetic value but also delivered lower maintenance requirements compared to the original specification. This involved undertaking a comprehensive review of available products on the market, with SHW seeking out materials that were both visually appealing and offered proven durability. The team collaborated with manufacturers to assess samples and technical data, ensuring that each option met the required standards for fire safety, weather resistance, and ease of upkeep.
