Transformative fire reinstatement works – Case Study.

Building Consultancy, SHW News

Stiles Harold Williams were invited to attend an initial meeting to investigate the severity of damage to 38 Panton Street following a fire which caused significant damage throughout. It is understood that the blaze was a result of faulty electrical circuits.

Matt

Our Building Consultancy Division were instructed to carry out reinstatement works on the four-storey converted Georgian terrace.

Many obstacles were overcome in the early stages such as:

- Fully licenced asbestos removal
- Structural propping through all floors
- Liaising with various stakeholder insurance companies
- Easements through both buildings
- Removal and reconstruction of various structural elements including the entire roof

The works were a resounding success, completing in less than a year £150,000 under budget.

John Rubin of Monckton & Company said: “Not only did SHW bring the works to a close under the period allowed, but also under the initial estimated budget. This was impressive. I found Matthew to be highly professional, very patient and also extremely efficient. I would not hesitate to appoint him again should a similar eventuality occur, or indeed to supervise any further building ventures.”

SHW Building Surveyor Matthew Davies said: “Due to the complexity of the works, I decided to remove elements of unforeseen risk by breaking down activities such as scaffolding, asbestos removal and roof replacement into small works packages. By significantly reducing the risk to contractor’s tendering the main reinstatement works, we were able to provide greater cost certainty and reduce risk premium.”
