Once underway, the £2.2bn fully privately financed project represents an opportunity to create around 14,000 jobs, release £1bn a year of additional economic benefits and unlock further opportunities for trade, tourism and job creation.

Stewart Wingate, Vinci Airports’ Managing Director for the UK, says: “As the |UK kickstarts economic growth, international connectivity is more important then ever before to maintain London and the UK’s position as the best-connected European market. With the project having received approval, we are now keen to move from planning delivery.”

Tim Hardwicke, Partner and Head of Agency at SHW, comments: “This is great news for the Gatwick region, with the project now becoming a reality we should start to see increased market activity with industrial and logistics schemes, such as Redhill’s Saltwhistle Business Park, Unity Logistics Park, Horley and Panattoni’s schemes in Crawley and Burgess Hill ready to cater for the increased demand to serve the airport and wider logistics.”
